Good to know about Courtney Milan. I've had The Duchess War on my TBR for a while. I'm going to have to move her up. I have Rafe on my TBR thanks to Mara. Talia Hibert's stuff is good. Love all the representation in her books.

Do you need to have read the other books in the series to read When a Scot Ties the Knot? It sounds like a fun read.

when a scott ties the knot is so good! it's also epistolary which is so beautiful. i gotta read courtney milan and more lyndsay sands altho i swear i read that one before. my rec would be machiavellian by bella di corte, the hero and heroine enter into an arranged marriage and like, piece out the contract over a whole day and it was super interesting!

  7. Yes to Courtney Milan novels! I need to read more from her.

SUCH a great idea–I've come across a few where I was tearing my hair out over the silliness of the misunderstanding premise!!

I am new to genre romance, well except for a few classics like Jane Austen. Thanks to some booktubers (especially Mara and you) I am expanding my horizons and getting past my former attitude problem with the genre. I am reading my first one, and it is a Talia Hibbert contemporary rom-com style novel. Get a Life, Chloe Brown. Than you so much. I am really enjoying it and will read the rest of this series. I already plan to read a Courtney Milan because from how I have heard people talk about her books, they sound like they might be what I would like. I am also very curious about Christina Lauren's books. Maybe I will try Holidaze for this upcoming festive season. I think I will need something to help me get in the holiday spirit.

Yay, I really love it when the couple actually talks to each other. I had already read many of these but some were new. Off to buy them. Can't wait for the Fantasy romance version

I have also recently discovered Courtney Milan and have really enjoyed what I have read ( The governess affair, the duchess war and A kiss for Midwinter ). I have really enjoyed how she writes her male characters, who are strong without being alpha. The main thing that ruins a historical romance for me is where the male character says or does something that should be unforgivable. Have you ever read Geargette Heyer? That was my introduction to historical romances, they were written in the 1950’s so are very clean but remain my favourite.

One of my favorites is Cotillion by Georgette Heyer! definitely an internal conflict that isn't related to miscommunication. Also a really well-done engagement of convenience trope! It's not really a genre romance I guess since it doesn't have sex scenes, but it's one of my favorite cozy reads!

This is why my favorite romance sub-genres are mystery/thriller/action. Most of not all of the conflict comes from whatever situation they're in instead of their relationship itself.

Silly miscommunication is one of my biggest pet peeves in Romance and it happens so often even in otherwise really good books! And even worse is the deliberate witholding of information which I always struggle with even when there is a good reason for it. I recently read Alexis Daria's Dance Off trilogy and all of those to me had exellent communication between the couples with other factors creating the conflct between them. TFS 🙂
