Hey gabby I agree on all counts except for the miscommunication. That is like the whole tragedy of romeo and juliet is lack of or miscommunication. Miscommunication happens every day, in fact. More than we will ever realize. More often than not, it's not the words that aren't said, it's the interpretation of those words in the other persons head. Not everyone is a master of their emotions or words and insecurity about oneself can make you hold your tongue when clarification is all that's needed. It's the most realistic scenario of all the others and for that reason I can appreciate it as a trope.

YES to all this video. Could you possibly do the opposite? And then maybe have a recommendations video attached to it? Because I don’t read much romance because of basically all the reasons you just said, so I’d love to have some good romance recs to work with 😊 Great video as always!

Ugh, I also soooo hate the insta-love! I also believe in attraction at first sight, because duh- we’ve all feel it, but from that attraction becoming interest, then like and then love is so different than being “in love” with someone you’ve only known for thirty minutes

Thank you, Gabby for this video. Agree with many points, especially when the girl or the guy keeps thinking about the romantic interest ALL THE TIME and in every single page of the book. It annoys me and I DNF the book because this kind of romance is not just superficial but unreal too. Life is more than just thinking about lovemaking/sex. If a contemporary romance novel cant be true to life then it is considered fantasy and I hate a fantasy book in which nothing happens!

The Queen of romance for me is Jane Austen. Think of Elizabeth Bennet . She's not impressed with D'Arcy when she meets him. Austen never has " insta" love.

i love romance too. In any genre, i love fantasy and science fiction but as long as it has some romance in it if not then i dont enjoy it as much. No clue why. of course i love a decent plot too and action/adventure but romance is important

i agree with you on the cheating one, which is why i can't stand love triangles…the only one i kind of like is vampire diaries. But otherwise love triangles annoy me so much

I have been a romance reader for nearly 40 years and have seen a LOT of trends come and go. I agree with you on nearly every point 🙂 One of my booktube pet peeves at the moment is the denigration made my nearly all booktubers by calling romance "smut". There seems to be a whole lot of people doing "smut-a-thon" etc who are (rightly) defensive of any denigration of other genres/tropes, but have no problems putting this genre down. I hardly ever have the problem of reading a lot of shitty romances before I get to the good ones. I have my auto-buy authors, I investigate new ones and I stick to my romance lane. It's quite frankly pissing me off as this denigration continues to happen, and only legitimises the opinions of those who don't read romance – end rant.
Please do a flip side of this video and I would love to see your peeves/favourites of other genres as well.

The girl constantly talking herself down and thinking she isnt good enough or pretty enough is my biggest pet peeve. This was a great video idea I hope you do more.

Disagree on the cheating thing. Thoughtless by S.C Stephens starts Keira with Denny but she starts to fall in love with his best friend Kellen and I love it sooo much. I shipped them so hard. ❤️❤️❤️ if you don’t mind the cheating thing and are looking for a good romance I really really recommend the thoughtless series, I have re read it through out the years and it’s one of my favorite to this day. 😍😍😍

You should really check out kimani harlequin romance they are awesome quick reads.. I call them my little soap operas!! Check out two grooms and a wedding by Adrianne Byrd this series is a good one to get your feet wet with.. you will love it!!!!

I enjoyed ur video sooo much and I agree with almost all the points U hate in a romance (but I loved Fifty Shades, not that I would accept that a guy tells what to do or not to do but because I understand the way Christian Grey is I accepted his character, and if Ana is ok and happy then why not 😋). Please make a video with all ur favorite romances or what you love in a romance 😍 reading a lot of new adult books makes us quite picky and not any romance would make us swoon !

I also hate when authors summarize conversations instead of showing us the actual dialogue between the characters! Plus, they do force a lot of situations on the reader just to make things sad or emotional. And the sex thing, I totally agree! Great video! I read a lot of new adult and I also developed a lot of pet peeves because of them haha

My biggest pet peeve is when the woman is a virgin and has crazy BDSM sex from the start. I like dark romances but a lot of them do that.

If anyone read historical romance that took place in the UK, you know what I mean when I say this. My pet peeve is when the man literally sexually assault the woman and it's not supposed to be bad because likes the sensations but still tell the man no. And he acts like she's lying. Then, the other characters just don't care about that AT ALL and are like "YaY tHeY'rE gEtTiNg MaRrIeD UwU" and the woman happily marries him. And in one book, this woman actually gets molested….and later on they happily marry…..and she forgave him….
This whole thing is so wrong. Just because a woman says no, it don't mean that she don't really mean it!! I just get so triggered because the whole thing is unrealistic and you'd think that her family would have a grudge against the man but NO!! They're like "I ship uwu" and I just put the book down and wonder what I just read.
I also hate how the women in the romances are pure virgins….
