Especially if it’s the hero. I’ve read books with a cheating heroine and that doesn’t bother me so much. But a cheating hero? 🤢 I know that Romancelandia definitely has cheating faves like The Day of the Duchess by Sarah Maclean but I could never even forgive the hero no matter how great his grovel is. Sheana Gutierrez September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 Courtney Bryans September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 Alice G September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Yes, epilogues!! 🥳 Zae Whitman September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am This is my favorite romance unpopular opinion video so far. You and I are very similar about what we like and are looking for in a romance book. I feel like it’s a very unpopular opinion about the sex scenes, but I 100% agree. I love good chemistry and a genuine connection building up to sex. I don’t care about the amount and I much rather prefer more tension than sex scenes! Merry Haveman September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Great video! I was with you 100% down the line.🎃 esmereadsandeats September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Loved hearing all your opinions 🎃 Zoë Wilhelmina September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 I think unpopular opinions videos are so interesting! I also disagree about not liking friends to lovers trope because my partner and I are literally that trope 😂 we were super close in elementary school but lost track of each other for around 10-15 years and reconnected two years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Monika September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I love how thoughtful you are when discussing the topics. We all have different point of views and comfort levels. Listen With Precious September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 romance has made me LESS judgmental 👏🏽 Carol Murdock September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Regarding the hate-to-love trope – the most recent example I read (be it only on her side), which actually worked for me, was L.Kleypas 'Devil's Daughter' Pheobe was not having West at all based on her late husband's experience with him as a school boy. I liked how it was played out where her loyalty was examined and she needed to open her eyes to the reality. louisville80 September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I sometimes excuse cheating in books in situations like the person was made to marry or be with a person by force. Example: heroine or hero has to marry to save family, by family or just made to do it by circumstances. The heroine or hero is truly detached from person they are made to be with. Then I except someone else coming in, Mafia and Dark Romance does this often. Madeline H September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 completely agree with you on Reverse Harems books! Heather Shaw September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Absolutely agree with you -A Romance Must have an HEA or at least a happy for now. Otherwise, it's just Fiction. I blame this on the recent traditional publishers/marketing push with books like One to Watch -Just because she dates during the course of the book doesn't make it a Romance. 🤦Not a fan of secret baby or cheating unless it's a dark romance, and she kept the baby a secret because she didn't want to get killed or something like that. My most hated trope is miscommunication as the main plot point, which is why I don't tend to pick up a lot of standard contemporary romance as that seems to be what many of them use as the main conflict. So it must be an unpopular opinion as there are so many of these out there. If you could resolve it with a 5 minute conversation why am I reading a 300 page book? No, thank-you. 😒 Probably explains why I read so much dark romance, urban fantasy and paranormal romance. 😂 I love a slow burn, but I also am a series girl too. The Others by Anne Bishop is not only a sloooow burn-like super slow, but is a favorite series and has my absolute favorite book couple ever. But, I also love all of the Ilona Andrews catalog, Alpha and Omega series by Patricia Briggs and Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. All fabulous -All follow 1 couple for multiple books -All Slow Burn -Coincidence? I think not. And yes, one of my favorite parts of a Romance book is an epilogue -and an Extended Epilogue or short story/novella after the initial "happily ever after " is total book crack to me. 😍 Victoria's Romance Reads September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I love how much thought and discussion you have on each of these opinions! GumiPoni September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Yes!!!! Exactly! 6:35 There seem to be different rules for romance novels vs any other books or content! The Book Refuge September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Here for some tea! Whoop whoop! The Book Refuge September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am A fiction book can be a good book with no HEA. But no Romance can be a Romance without an HEA. LET US STOP CONFUSING THE 2 NOW. please and thank you! The Book Refuge September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I don't mind surprise pregnancy. Because I love seeing how it brings a couple together. But I HATE secret pregnancy. Ugh. Boo The Book Refuge September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am The Hate to Love hot take. Hahaha! We just talked about on the live show. Haha S MT September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 Barbara Russell September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 Thank you so much for this video! I agree 100% 💗 especially about the HEA/HFN in romance. Love Cosmo! 💗💗💗 Naomi Chamoan September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃 CherylNA September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 🎃loved hearing your thoughts on these topics!👍🏼 Hannah Zechariah September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am HEA and HFN are the point! I absolutely do not support people classifying non-HEA books as romances. (Part of that is that smut does not make a romance novel. You can have explicit or erotic fiction that is not romance. Tiktok can not tell the difference) RoorooReads September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Slow burns are my favorite! I love the tension, chemistry, and banter! Getting to watch them fall in love over time is just amazing to me. I totally agree that when stuff happens to early it's boring, it's like getting rushed to the end but then having 90% of the book left. The acception is a one night stand type of situation at the beginning and then the characters freak out and dance around each other for the rest of the book 🤣 love it! Meme Black September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I agree with pretty much all your opinions, especially regarding the cheating! I think the only romance with cheating that worked for me was Sarah Maclean's Day of the Duchess (and that entire book was the hero groveling!). 🙂 Monica87 September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am That's a very good point about dark themes in romance being overly criticized compared to mainstream genres and shows. I never saw it that way. It's a total double standard, you're right. I love dark romance but I know what I consider "dark" is probably more tame for others and barely touches the surface. lol jolynn White September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 👌🏾🏳️🌈👍🦹🏾♂️🧕🏿📕📕📕📕 Ba Yayefama September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am Cheating is just a big No for me in romance Ba Yayefama September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am It doesn't turn me off reading about cheating in domestic thriller because it's not romance hey but i feel you RebeccaW September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am 100% with all of these, especially with your views on Slow Burn done right❤️. ashleyreads September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am it's crazy to me how common the hea argument comes up, it seems like every romance reader agrees but people are just like "no, you're wrong" ashleyreads September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am why am i tearing up about your views on messy heas?? Lisa B September 19, 2021 at 6:35 am I cringed a little when you mentioned dog-earring pages and creases in the spine. My husband and I are in the same line of work and read books for work frequently. I always insist on having a second copy of books we both want to read because books always look like they’ve been read a hundred times by the time he’s done with them (and maybe run over by a few cars in the process?? I have no idea what he does to those poor books, but it hurts my heart to look at them). I treat my books like a newborn baby. 😋 Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
