It's totally ok not to like an author. I am a Colleen Hoover fan, but her last three books I wasn't crazy about. Its off the subject of romance, but read Verity by Colleen Hoover, its her first thriller and I loved it!

Don't miss out on Katherine Center. Her book the Lost Husband has recently came out as a movie. How to Walk Away is her break out novel. I have enjoyed all of her books. Also I like her essays and watching her on YouTube. Also I don't her Lyndsay Sands mentioned often but I love her books. Her books have humor, romance and a touch of mystery. An especially fun title is the Loving Daylights. I hope you'll give them a try.

I second the Julie James rec but suggest Practice Makes Perfect. Also suggest Sarah Mayberry’s Her Favorite Rival. Both are hate to love with office settings.

I was hoping you'd say Nora Roberts is over-rated. She's at the point where she's recycling her plots.

You should try Jill Shalvis's Animal Magnatism series. Full of humor but also tackles real issues (like PTSD).

the second book in the bromance book club is awful, and I loved the first. I hate books that preach at you, and that one was so preachy about the 'me too' stuff. Its a serious issue deserving of being in heaps of books, but the way the men talked about it was so forced and unnatural.

Meet Cute Club by Jack Harbon is one I recommend to you if you haven’t read it already. It is on the shorter size at just a little over 200 pages and was just a quick cute read to me. It wasn’t blow you socks off life-changing or anything, but I still really liked it.

For a lot of Romance readers, an HEA is the main requirement, so authors like Sparks and Hoover are not considered Romance authors. Do they follow a love story? Sure, but I would categorize them as Women's Fiction or Gen Fiction. Even Christina Lauren is no longer shelves in the Romance section at my B&N -only their backlog, which I find are their best works.

Indie tends to be my jam so I recommend Brittainy C. Cherry, Penelope Douglas, Elle Kennedy, Claire Contreras, Helena Hunting, Kennedy Ryan, Karina Halle, Penny Reid among many others. If you like darker, sexier reads I recommend Tiffany Reisz, Aleatha Romig, Pam Godwin, Pepper Winters, CD Reiss, and K. Webster.

Aw Nora Ephron, Meg Ryan any day. When Harry Met Sally is side by side with Sleepless in Seattle. Kiss My Cupcake is really fun. I'm doing a readathon of romance. Right now I'm reading You Deserve Each Other not liking it. My fave romance contemporary Beach Read and The Hating Game; Classic: Pride and Prejudice always. Thx for the video. xoxo

I think is interesting that you don’t listen to audio books because you’re busy. That’s the reason I listen to audio books, I’m so busy that I listen to books when I do dishes, when I clean and when I go for walks. However, my love for books has grown because of your channel I’m so grateful for all your amazing recommendations. 🌹

The friends to lovers book trope is my favorite. I think friendship is a good foundation for romance. Also like second chance love 💕

As I've gotten older Colleen Hoover's books have become more problematic to me… that said some of her books (Too Late, It Ends With Us and Verity) are some of my absolute favorite books…. but there's a lot of toxic masculinity in her books which drives me mad as I've gotten older haha.

Riley Hart, Sarina Bowen, Avril Ashton and Nicola Haken are my fave romance authors. Only read Christina Laurens ya book which was amazing havent gotten to thier adult works theres so many.

One of my absolute favorite chick-lit/romance books is you don't have to say you love me, by Sarra Manning. Sort of a fake romance+enemies to lovers+plus size leading lady all in one! It's so good and I wish more people knew about it! Her book unsticky is amazing too! That one is pretty much a fake romance as well! I urge you to give em a try!

As far as historical..I'm sure you get a lot of current authors recommended, but for older ones that are so good even if slighty problematic by today's standards are anything by Kathleen Woodiwiss or Johanna Lindsey! And an oldie but goodie is forever amber by Kathleen Winsor. It was banned in the 40's!! I accidentally read it when I was about 12 and it is still one of my very favourites!

I was also a fan of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult. I do still enjoy Jodi Picoult's books. They crush me each and every time, but I can't stop. Nicholas Sparks on the other hand, I've moved on. I've noticed that I tend to lean more toward indie authors than the "big name" authors, and I'm loving it.

I had the same start with romance… I started with Nicholas Sparks and have moved on now that I'm older but that's where my beginning of romance began.

Good answers! I could never stand the accidental pregnancy/secret baby trope. I just don't like the idea of kids being involved. Too overrated. Enough said. Anyway, Heather, I have a personally important question for you. What are your thoughts on the recent Joss Whedon controversy?
