The Survivors' Club series by Mary Balogh

    8 works, 7 primary works

These are the stories of six men and one woman, all severely wounded in one way or another during the Napoleonic Wars before ending up convalescing together at the home of the Duke of Stanbrook. The Proposal is the story of Hugo Emes, Lord Trentham. The Suitor, an e-novella, is the story of Julian Crabbe, the duke's nephew and heir. The Arrangement is Vincent, Viscount Darleigh's story.

This series just wrapped up. Each main character has an interesting backstory and complex emotions.

As always, I just LOVE how you talk about the books you read. I always walk away with at least one recommendation from you. Have you read "A Bride Most Begrudging" by Deeanne Gist? It is historical and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I highly recommend Michelle Willingham's Forbidden Vikings series: To Sin with a Viking and To Tempt a Viking. I don't read a ton of historicals, but when I do… I like Viking settings and she's one of my favourite authors.

Honestly, if you don't mind books with religious themes (I'm not down for the Christian section of the bookstore, but these are so worth it) you should check out Jody Hedlund books. My favourite by her is Captured Love, it honestly felt like a beautiful epic romance, it was just fantastic. Another historical romance I really enjoyed was Lips That Touch Mine by Wendy Lindstrom. Just some of my favourites.

I've had Edenbrooke on my Amazon wishlist for years… I keep waiting for the price to go down… I'm glad you liked it. I gotta check it out. …and I can't stand historical romances that don't know anything about how society worked during that time. Good Lord.

  13. Put a Finish on It

Okay, so it's not a book. Have you seen the film Sweetland? It's lovely. Early 20thC mail-order bride story.

I always find it unusual when there are people who read adult romance and are offended by explicit sex.

For some reason, you remind me of Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter. 🙂 I think it's the way you speak. It's actually quite interesting to watch😊

I feel like every time I love a book and then go on to goodreads for similar books, I always end up somewhat disappointed. I tried to do that with ACOMAF and it didn't work out so well for me. : ) I'm going to have to check out Edenbrooke. All I need to hear is "Jane Austenish."

It's an older book, but My Warrior's Heart by Bettina Krahn has an actual plot/conflict and wonderful characters.
