If you want a perfect fall book I highly, HIGHLY recommend Revenge by Yoko Ogawa! It's a short story collection (which I normally skip) that I enjoyed soooooo much and it gave all the Halloweeny vibes I wanted! Jade City is on my upcoming tar as well! I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail, hopefully tomorrow.

Off topic but if you want a perfect autumn game on the Switch you should check out Night in the Woods! It's story & character driven, has the PERFECT fall aesthetic and did I mention there's a cult???

I love Annihilation, personally I was very disappointed by the movie because I read the book first and much preferred the atmosphere of the book

I read Tender is the Flesh and it is very dark and twisted, like the worst regular people could do in an awful system brought to the forth front. It’s mostly a world exploration but there is a small plot and a very interesting main character that makes you go 🧐. Also, House of Leaves is actually simpler than the layout makes it seem. The story itself is pretty simple and a lot of people skip the Johnny parts, so if you ever read it, do not do that it’s actually super important. I recommend “The Last Ritual” by SA Sidor. It’s based on Arkham, cosmic horror video games with a crime spin, but you don’t have to play the games. Very dreadful

Oh geez a long comment and I forgot to mention some rock in’ horror recs: Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and Final Girl Support Group are by the same author and so much fun and great horror and themes thrown in there and cool character work highly recommend

I feel exactly the same about Egyptian mythology! I think you'll like Frankenstein. It's a great story.

I read "A Pho Love Story" back in February and I gave it 3 stars. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I also read it the same month as "A Taste for Love," which was so cute and I loved so much, that "A Pho Love Story" paled in comparison. The best book I read in August was "Caraval" by Stephanie Garber. I love this book and it's a new favorite. Also, "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood is like the cutest romance ever and a new favorite.

I’m not on TikTok but I’ve heard about the Atlas Six, so I bought and IT’S REALLY GOOD. There will be more books on the series, so be aware lol. All of the characters were so interesting, the setting was great, the discussions on philosophy and physics too! 100% recommended. I also have Jane Eyre and, pride and prejudice on my list 🙂

I suggest The River Has Teeth! I haven't finished it yet but it's light horror and lgbt! It's really good so far! One girl is searching for her missing sister, another girl is witchy and is trying to help her mother who has turned monster-ish after a spell gone wrong and she thinks her mother may have something to do with the missing girl.

Never would've expected Leonie to be a cosmic horror fan. I've caught a bit of an addiction to it over the past year and just picked up a few short story collections that have been excellent! I recommend Song for the Unraveling of the World by Brian Evenson and The Beautiful Thing That Awaits Us All by Laird Barron

Do not unhaul Night Film. I read it last autumn and loved it. It totally felt like a good movie. Granted, it got a bit tedious at the end, but all in all a great book. I definitely want to read more by her.

Frankenstein is my favourite classic so far, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts. And for the record, if you want to go for a dark academia read I will honestly point you towards Bunny. The Secret History is a much longer book and it is a little heavier. So for your current mood, and if you want to go easier on yourself, Bunny would be a better choice. I do love both of those books as well, and I hope you enjoy whichever one you choose to read.
