wow!!! I really like the idea for this video!!! I'm a 10 year old boy and big surprise I don't love a lot of the kissing and romance. I just started my booktube channel where I review only audiobooks and I don't think I've reviewed any with any big romance. a classic that I like is TREASURE ISLAND and that barely has any romance. also one of my mom's and my favorite books is WHEN YOU REACH ME and that has only a little and it is SOOOO GOOD. I'm gonna check out your recommendations and subscribe to you too!!!

LOL I can't get away from the spicy book algorithm on booktok. Fully agree on needing to rethink the boundaries of YA. I've also noticed that one of the conundrums we have is that people want 16 year olds to sound/act like 25 year olds, and then 25 year olds in fiction can get panned for allegedly sounding/acting like teenagers because of those shifting expectations, so I do think we are losing sight of what is what because the market keeps pushing for more and more adult-y YA, and this is filtering into the "spice" department. I also really love that you specify that a book can be "not clean" and not have spice. There are other serious issues that can be addressed outside of romance, and this is great list of recs!

I'm a little over a minute in this video and I'm already gosh darn hyped. Two things are hard to find in fantasy, 1. fantasy that focuses on humour and 2. little to no romance. Especially in YA. Okay, back to the video.
