A lot of our list was the same so that’s awesome! You made it farther than I did in the switch, I didn’t make it past 30% lol I just couldn’t do it haha
I feel the same way about in five years! I hated it!
I also really enjoyed one to watch, I thought it was done really well and unique.
I ended up liking the ever after playlist, I thought it was odd for me though because I didn’t like the first one. But I feel this one was better then the first book in the series lol
Thanks for doing this!! I love hearing your thoughts about the nominees, I find myself usually agreeing with you so it's a good indication of what I might enjoy. So I would love it if you did it again next year, of course, but only if you feel like it's something you would enjoy. 🙂
Not to be rude, but I don't know how I feel about a woman knocking a m/m romance written by a gay man because it didn't contain explicit sex…
There's already so much fetishistic m/m, especially written by women, that if a man wants to write a sweet fade to black story it shouldn't be criticized for it
So glad I'm not alone in wondering how a lot of mainstream romance is even considered "romance"! Now I will go search for your indie romance recommendations :3
I hated the way In Five Years ended. I couldn’t put it down because I kept wondering how it was all going to fall into place. Overall I think it’s about following your gut, not planning your whole life, not settling, and loving hard and fierce.. I might have liked it less if I had read the physical book, but with the audio, it was an ok time, not great, but ok. I do think there was a message there even though I didn’t get the ending I wanted.. I felt weird about wanting that ending anyway lol.
I mostly read non fiction but of late because of the challenges of the past 12 months I'm looking to broaden my palette. I recently became interested in Kasie West. I like her books even though they are YA and I'm well beyond the years of her intended audience LOL. A good story is a good story. You mentioned the name of a few Indie Published romance writers…can you list the better ones so I know where to start.
I enjoyed In Five Years, but it should not be in the romance category. I'm honestly surprised that it was ranked that high on the Goodreads list because, while I enjoyed it, I really don't think it belongs there at all. The marketing team for that book needs to be fired.
The main issue is Goodreads, not the books chosen for each category. The Switch isn't really a romance novel and I'm sad people aren't enjoying it because it's been pitched wrong by a website.
Do you know what my best romance is for 2021? My love actually bought me 2 gifts online from Teespring for the upcoming valentine's day: a mug and a matching pullover with a BOOKS ARE MY Valentine design as he knows I love books. They're so simple yet so classy. I couldn't be happier!
Everything is rigged these days. No one listens to the people. Lists like this are gift to publishers and authors that play the good game or fit the good agenda. The fact no indie books made it sort of speaks volumes about how everything is a club and we aren’t in the club. Great vid again. 👊👍
i used to be a WHORE for colleen hoover books, but i stopped reading them, but then i picked up regretting you, and it's honestly one of my favorite books of all time, so idk
House of card, love story about love a devil is she willing to love a underground boss as only way to be marry and she cannot resist to love a underground boss. Then, high income individual boss who is like just want to be profitable in america scientist lab. Woman in scandal after husband in a crime.
I read the the Flatshare by Beth O'Leary last year and really enjoyed it and everyone who I know has read it has enjoyed it as well and friend of mine actually recommended the Switch saying it's just as good. So I think we are the targeted audience haha. For us it was about not overwhelmingly romantic and fluffy romance but bit more slow burner and also dealing well with the real issues that the characters have I think. Considering that it is not supposed to be a super serious book. And I'd at least consider the Flatshare as a romance (haven't read the Switch yet) so maybe it is designed for dunno "quieter" romance taste or to us Nordics haha.

I thought I was the only one who thought Beach Read was not so romance heavy. I voted for Take a Hint Dani Brown, btw…

You’d LOVE Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover if you haven’t already read it. I’m not a fan of really steamy romances but seeing that you are, you’d love it.
