I adore when you do tags because we have such similar reading tastes. My first Historical was also Highlander romance, I’m weak for a Scottish man 😆 you also made Whitney my Love top of my tbr list, I love a possessive alpha hero.

Yes, please read Catherine Anderson! You won’t regret, her characters are so real and the stories have both heart and joy. I’m sure you’ve heard that so many times but I have to mention it again lol. And those two you showed are two great books from her. 🥰

You may know this but Amanda Quick also writes contemporaries under the name Jayne Ann Krentz. I've only read her under that name.
My first historical romance may very well have been Kathleen Woodiwiss' Flame and the Flower. (Yes, I'm old. I read her in the 1970s.) However, I may have also picked up a Barbara Cartland before that, which is quite a different type of book.

Omg you HAVE to read Annie's Song. Must must must. Also I'm dying for that last Highlander book from Maya Banks but I've given up hope. I think she stopped writing because of her health issues. 🙁

My first one was Adora by Beatrice Smalls because of She-ra's real name was Adora. I remember not liking it.

I don't know why but I think Amanda quick is the coolest name I've ever heard.

I've been dealing with some anxiety and a mini reading slump so I'm still stuck on chapter 13 of Olivia and the masked Duke :// I really want to pick it up again but I'm also weirdly hesitating I hate reading slumps ://

You were on point with the recs for beginners. I'm new to Historical Romances & I stumbled into it precisely through Tessa Dare's When A Scot Ties the Knot (those scots have a way to pull us all in don't they?) & I loved it so much because of said charm, definitely made me want to look more into this genre BUT it was Sarah MacLean who i feel is the reason I'm now going down a rabbit hole of taking all recs & bingeing on anything anyone mentions (so thank you for giving more than one answer to this tag because I took notes.) 😅

I'm a little scared to delve into the older stuff because of possible problematic content but when you mention how Judith McNaught came out with an updated version, i thought it was so great of her to have done so, so I guess I know what my intro to older Historical Romance will be, which im excited about because it sounds amazing! 💖

Please try some Sally Mackenzie. She is a prolific writer, her books are full of humour and have a plot.
The other author would be MC Beaton/Marion Cheney, an older author, also prolific and very probably more historically accurate than most. She write lots of lovely novellas. They are a joy to read.
