I had bought War and Peace and Anna Karenina like 10 years ago and it's still stacked in my bookshelf haunting me. I can't tell how many times I gave up on the book and didn't even make half-way through it. But after watching you I might finally pull myself together and give it a go. Thanks for inspiring me💜

Thank you, it is very valuable and interesting to know the impressions and thoughts of a non-Russian reader about Russian literature.))

Emmie, you sould read a manga called Solanin by Inio Asano. There are two volumes and it's so beautiful and touching, you won't regret (well, I hope so hahahah).

Your channel is helping a lot me to improve my english and, as a brazilian, I felt so good seeing Machado de Assis on your read list <3

Added your favorites to my TBR, I admire the way you give us a nice briefing about everything without saying way too much ❣ I am currently reading Anna Karenina as my first Tolstoy and I think his writing is infinite. When I finish it, I will not be afraid of War and Peace anymore. Thank you!

idk if you have or not but i would love if you make a video on how you annotate books. I’m not in the space mentally to keep friends around and i would love to better remember the things i read since i don’t have the privilege of having conversations. There’s videos on youtube but the way you summarized War and Peace was beautiful.

Hi:) I’m from Russia and I’m so glad to know that you are interested in Russian literature especially Leo Tolstoy’ ones . I’m proud of you (of your reading “war and peace”) and maybe a little jealous 😅 cause now I’m only in the start. Hope you will enjoy more Russia novels, I recommend you to read Alexander Kuprin’s texts like «The Garnet Bracelet”, “Olesya”, “Duel” (maybe it sounds a little different)

I don't know if you have already read things by him, but I think you'd like Leopardi's writings! He was an italian poet of the 19th century, his works are very delicate but also dealing with human emotions and how sublime they can become!

Hey, you should check out NANA. It's about two girls with the same name meeting on a train by chance and deciding to live together. I think it's one of the best depictions of female friendship, especially in manga. They go through a journey of self discovery, realizing their flaws and helping each other grow. It's also a romance but it definitely has a dark side to it. They're essentially total opposites and we get to see how each treats the love interests in her life and what her priorities are. There's an anime too.
